The EcoKitchen roots float directly in the water that they grow in, this results in high water efficiency - reducing the amount of maintenance that the system needs! Refill on average once every 2-3 weeks.
Experience higher yields and faster growth as the EcoKitchen provides the perfect nutrient balance and light exposure that your plants need to grow.
Modern design fits in most kitchens or living rooms - just metres away from your plate. Save the trip to the supermarket and harvest fresh herbs when you need them!
By growing food in your own home, you reduce the distance food travels to get to you - resulting in a fresher meal on your table and fewer emissions from food miles! Yay environment!
The lights themselves replicate the wavelength of light that plants need to grow. This wavelength is usually a small band of blue light between 400 and 500 nm, and red light between 600 and 700 nm which when combined result in a purple glow. The white light LED diodes in this product emit a lot of blue light, and the red lights provide the red light. When combined it provides all the light that most plants need to grow! See our FAQ for more on how growlights are different to normal lights
The plant is held in rockwool - which is the product of a molten rock that has been heated and spun like fairy floss. Rockwool provides uniform oxygenation for a plant's roots, as well as a stable medium for the plant to be secured by. Germinating seeds in rockwool has a 90% success rate if you make sure to wet the seeds! Once the roots grow out of the rockwool, they simply float in our hydroponic nutrient water and grow. providing you with soil-free growing that makes this product perfect for your kitchen! This EcoKitchen has 12 rockwool growing pods! So you can grow a variety of your favourite herbs and leafy greens such as lettuce, basil, coriander, parsley, rocket and more! All you need to get started are seeds and nutrients of your choice!
If you've ever setup somethign that's flatpacked then this will be a walk in the park for you! All you need to do to setup the EcoKitchen is screw in the wooden panels with the allen key provided, add in your rockwool cubes to the netcups, plant seeds, add water and nutrients and you're good to go!
There isn't too much maintenance required - on average you will only need to re-fill water and nutrients every 2-4 weeks. When the water runs low, refill it and add two scoops (scoop provided) of the hydroponic nutrients provided into the water basin and mix! Make sure you mix the nutrients in correctly - as it won't work if it's not dissolved! If anything goes wrong - troubleshooting is easy, the best way to get back on track is to throw our the old nutrient water solution (into the garden or some other plants) and start again with fresh water and nutrients!
How exciting to grow your own food on your kitchen bench in a city apartment. It’s a fun way of growing food, easy to set up and manage, and a great intro into hydroponics. Love the built in growth lights, water pump and all the seeds and rock wool to get you started. You can see growth in the first week and then see the growth and change in your edible plants on a daily basis! My husband and I are obsessed with our little kitchen garden!
Hi Melissa, How exciting! It's great to hear that you're having success with our eco kitchen. Having fresh food at hand is the best. Thanks for your kind review, Charlotte
I’ve had my Eco Kitchen for two weeks, and it’s giving me such pleasure. I love checking on the growth of my little seedlings and can’t wait to have an abundance of lettuce and herbs for salads.
Hey Fiona, That's great to hear! Thanks for your kind review. Having fresh food at hand is one of the best parts. Enjoy, Charlotte
I have a black thumb, I literally have never been able to keep anything alive. I now have herbs AND they’re thriving! I can’t believe it!!! I’m so in love with my EcoKitchen, and if you pop into the Urban Plant Growers Facebook group they’re all so helpful with any questions you might have. I’ve learnt so much that I’ve done a second order, transplanted all of my herbs into a larger self watering pot from Urban Plant Growers and some in the ground and have started more, tomatoes and capsicums as well as other herbs this time! Thanks Urban Plant Growers! (Please note the photo of the taller basil is after Easter when I had picked most of the leaves off and made a beautiful pesto-they were gorgeously bushy!)
Hey Renee, Thanks so much for the really kind feedback - glad that you feel welcomed in the community group and are killing it with your gardening journey! We've got a bunch of new products in the pipeline that I'm sure you'll love!
I think it’s great being able to watch the herbs grow and then being able to use them in all different types of recipes as well as salads nothing beets freshly grown herbs.
Thanks, Sally. Enjoy those herbs! From the Urban Plant Growers Team.
Love it. The postage was very quick and I love how I got to put it together myself. Easy to operate, set-up and use. Within a couple of days my seedlings had sprouted
I wanted to grow herbs but didn’t want to have the mess with soil and pots! This is exactly what I was after and it is so much more aesthetically pleasing, plus I can have my herbs growing on my kitchen counter which is so convenient:)
Completely happy with the whole experience from pick up in Marrickville where the customer service was amazing to the easy construction of the frame and now I have the healthiest herbs on there way. No more insects getting to my herbs before I do!
I've never had herbs thrive like this I had an issue with the frame and Tamara was so helpful in assisting me I would definitely buy more as gifts for my family
My daughter got this for Christmas. Set it up boxing day and the following day the seeds had started to shoot. She is so happy with it and it was easy set up too thank you so much x
Absolutely love this set! Seedlings have already bloomed and look nice and healthy. Love the grow light that is attached as it has its own timer so you don’t have to worry about it! Going to buy another one to have more herbs available to use! In our kitchen! :)
Planted 8 seeds and all have germinated. Exciting watching the growth everyday. Great aesthetics in the kitchen
Great product, nice design and quiet when the pump is running. My partner loves growing her strawberrys and basil so much that we bought another model and are planning to save for the family farm version. Support people are so lovely and easy to deal with.
