Specifications
The sun shelf is a completely modular indoor garden which can be bought with 2,4 or 6 light panels, and 0, 2, 4, or 6 hydroponic growing basins.
The Sun Shelf frame comes in its own box which includes everything you need to start growing your ecosystem:
- 4x Wooden shelves that can be loaded with up to 30kg of plants per shelf, plus built-in magnetic mounts for the grow lights to clip on to. There are 16x screws included for bolting in the shelf levels to the metal frame.
- 2x Black powder coated steel frames with integrated cables already set up - ready to go. A structural cross bar, and 5x screws are included to eliminate the wobble on your shelf.
- 1x 150W, 24V military grade Meanwell power supply, with IP65 water resistant cabling. This means your entire multi-layer Sun Shelf can run off one power supply, so no messy cabling. The adaptor retails at $150.
- 1x Spare pump controller power cable.
When setup the sun shelf dimensions are - width: 105cm, depth: 32cm, height: 138cm.
The lights for the sun shelves come in pairs. Each set includes:
- 2x Sun panels (fits out one level of shelving) fitted with high efficiency LED Grow lights. A set of 6 panels consumes 325kWh of electricity each year if they are on their maximum intensity setting for 12 hours per day. Most plants would need less than this.
- 8x Integrated magnets to clip straight onto your frame, and 8 regular screws in case you want to mount them onto your own furniture.
- 1x Electronic controller to adjust your light timer between 3/6/9/12/15/18 hours per day, and 10 different intensity levels.
- Each set of Sun panels can be used on any level.
- Dimensions of the panel are 34cm by 24cm.
The Growing Modules also come in pairs, each set includes:
- 2x Growing basins - each with with lids, pumps, water level indicators, 12x netcups per basin, and 12x rockwool cubes per basin.
- 1x Pump controller with two magnetic screws pre-installed.
Orders with growing modules will include a 1L herb and leafy green nutrient, and a seed bundle containing our most popular seeds.
If you choose to buy the sun shelf with a Pot Combo, it will include:
- 3x Self watering Square Pots.
- 1x Hardwood Propagation station.

Sun Shelf
I was super excited to receive my sun shelf. It was super easy to assemble. I also purchased 2 grow modules. I did find the instructions for these a little hard to decipher but I got there in the end! I’ve had it up & running for only a few days but can already see my seeds sprouting, it’s so exciting!! Before I even set it up I had already purchased 2 more grow modules. Now I just play the waiting game for everything to sprout :-)

Love it, although I wish it had more space between shelves
I love this Sun Shelf and I'm really glad I bought it. It is amazing for growing cos lettuce and rocket. I've had some seeds that didn't sprout, and some that sprouted but quickly died, but the cos lettuce, rocket, dill and basil really took off. It's great for starting the growth process, both from seeds I bought from Urban Plant Growers, seeds I've bought elsewhere and seeds I've harvested myself from supermarket food (baby capsicums and tomatoes- I even have two capsicums growing right now!). I even saved house plants that were almost dead. Most of my plants (lettuce, red amaranth, dill, basil etc) have gotten too big for the space though. I don't know how to keep them small enough. I think I'm going to have to remove a shelf - I'm not sure what to do with the extra grow lights though. For the moment, I have plants on the floor next to it, they still seem to get enough light. My suggestions for future iterations would be to make the unit taller to have more space between each shelf, to make the shelves easier to move once set up, batteries in remotes (as they reset when there is a power outage), and an easier way to refill water/larger water reserves and/or a shared larger water reservoir).

The easiest way to grow plants!!
I am pretty new to hydroponics and the Sun Shelf is my first hydroponic system. I am so happy with how easy quick everything is to set up - as well as how quickly all of my seeds have germinated in the modules! Within a matter of a couple of days all of my seeds had sprouted! I live in an apartment that doesn’t get much sun, so I am using 3 levels with light panels and 2 of them have modules - the extra level with light I use for my other house plants and they are all very happy under their new light! I love how the shelf lights up my living space as well as being great for my plants Another great aspect is that the lights can be put on a timer and at different intensities, so all of the different plants are getting exactly how much light they need and I don’t have to worry about remembering to turn the lights on or off! I would definitely recommend the Sun Shelf to anyone interested because if it’s ease of use and versatility!! My plants are looking so healthy! ���

Love my sun shelf!
The sun shelf has been an excellent addition to my home, it’s fully customisable and is very stylish. I love the design and finish of the product. I can grow veggies on one shelf and indoor plants on another, I love the versatility and customisation. It is the only product on the market which comes with everything you need to grow food and plants indoors, not matter what conditions you have at home. The shelving has adjustable height which is fantastic for my taller plants. I really love my sun shelf, it’s so practical and functional with style!

Fantastic Product!
It was surprisingly simple to set up, it has been made with ease of build in mind and it works fantastically! My sprouts are already bright and growing! My only recommendation would be to clarify in the instructions that the top shelf does not chain the pumps, I was confused on that part.

Great product and backup service
Love my sunshelf. I have just planted my first seeds but felt a little unsure of what to do. I talked to Tamara at Urban Plant Growers, who was reassuring and infomative. I now feel like I can go ahead and plant my dwarf tomatoes as well as the lettuce and herbs I have already planted. This is a small but awsome company who are hands on with their customers - so rare these days, but so appreciated by customers. Th postag from Australia to NZ is reasonable, akig any products I want affordable.

Sun Shelf
I bought a sun shelf with all the extras. In transit the 3 green nutrient growth products I ordered was damaged and leaked all over everything so they were empty. Because of this the wool cubes and instructions were damaged as well. I have ordered multiple items in the past for gifts and everything was fine. The new packaging of the nutrients isn't very good as it pierces too easily and should have been packaged better so this didn't happen. I haven't set everything up yet but now I have to clean everything and buy new nutrients before I can start. Very disappointed especially given the money.

One of the best products ever! The grow shelf that finally includes everything!
Now, this is one well-thought-out product! Not only are there metal pieces on the top of each shelf to connect the magnetic screws from their grow lights, but they have been so clever in the arrangement of power cords for the whole shelf. There are no unexposed wires and the whole thing is very safe and easy to set up. This shelf has become very useful for my nan who now struggles to grow plants outside. Because of this product, she is able to grow vegetables inside again, which has been wonderful for her quality of life. A really great product along with the grow lights!

Great product but I think the cables from the lights to the pump and the remote cables could be longer to allow more flexibility when setting up.

Sun Shelf easy to install
