LED Grow Lights
The lights themselves replicate the wavelength of light that plants need to grow. This wavelength is usually a small band of blue light between 400 and 500 nm, and red light between 600 and 700 nm which when combined result in a purple glow. The white light LED diodes in this product emit a lot of blue light, and the red lights provide the red light. When combined it provides all the light that most plants need to grow! See our FAQ for more on how growlights are different to normal lights
There are 17 essential elements requried for plant growth. Three of these are carbon, hydrogren and oxygen (which the plant gets from water and air), the rest are macronutrients (Nitrogen, Potassium and Phosphate) and Micronutrients (Calcium, magnesium, sulfur, boron, chlorine, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, molybdenum, and nickel). Most fertilisers only have the three macronutrients at best. In comparison our Hydroponic nutrients contain 14 essential elements required for plant growth! All you need to do to use it is mix it in with water and watch as your plant grows! You can find way more detail on how hydroponic nutrients work in our faq.
Rockwool Growing Medium
The plant is held in rockwool - which is the product of a molten rock that has been heated and spun like fairy floss. Rockwool provides uniform oxygenation for a plant's roots, as well as a stable medium for the plant to be secured by. Germinating seeds in rockwool has a 90% success rate if you make sure to wet the seeds! Once the roots grow out of the rockwool, they simply float in our hydroponic nutrient water and grow. providing you with soil-free growing that makes this product perfect for your kitchen! This Terragarden has 12 rockwool growing pods! So you can grow a variety of your favourite herbs and leafy greens such as lettuce, basil, coriander, parsley, rocket and more! All you need to get started are seeds and nutrients of your choice!
If you've ever setup something that's flatpacked then this will be a walk in the park for you! All you need to do to setup the TerraGarden is clip in the light panel to the strut, and clip that into the water basin. Add in your rockwool cubes to the netcups, add water and nutrients and you're good to go!
There isn't too much maintenance required with the TerraGarden - on average you will only need to re-fill water and nutrients every 2-4 weeks. When the water runs low, refill it and add 5-10mL of the hydroponic nutrients per litre of water into the water basin and mix! If anything goes wrong - troubleshooting is easy, the best way to get back on track is to throw out the old nutrient water solution (into the garden or some other plants) and start again with fresh water and nutrients!
This is the 2nd Terragarden I have purchased as I wanted my son to have one in his new home. He loves having fresh greens to eat every day! Mine has expanded into quite a big set up now with other hydro pots and lights all around it in my kitchen. Its a talking point for all who visit! I just couldnt love it more!
Well finally got home and unpacked.
Just got back with my 10 Terra Gardens from Urban Plant Growers. It was terrific to be able to look at the systems and make a choice. ( after picking one type and not being certain I’d made the right choice)
I finally made a decision. It was also Awesome to be able to see and talk to Tamara and Dilhan about how and what to try to hopefully succeed in my venture. ( I found them extremely helpful and I appreciate the time you gave to me in this busy time of year) awesome service it’s really special when the faces behind the product are willing to help.
I’m looking forward to being able to grow Fresh Herbs for my restaurant.
I’ll up date as time goes and I’m interested in weather or not this is a viable option for me to be able to
1. provide a fresh grown product.
2. save on packaging from purchasing my Herbs in plastic and elastic.
3. consistent availability to provide at least 2 bunches a day for 5 days a week trading.
I’ll continue to update as time goes by.
Thanks so much.
Papadinos Restaurant Katoomba.
I have enjoyed nurturing my hydro garden so much that I have bought one for my sister. I am on my 2nd batch now and high recommend for anyone starting out.
Fresh herbs, tomatoes and strawberries are the best!
It’s so rewarding and so easy to grow your own!
Thé subscription is really handy too.
The item is pretty good, quality seems to be solid, although I cannot measure the longevity of the pump and the grow light yet. I just wish the system can allow the grow light to go higher and it has more seeds selection
